IPA Launches Adopt-a-Brick Program

By Kathleen Smith and Merrill Schwartz

On Saturday, December 15th, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:30pm, the Imperial Point Association will hold the annual Winter in the Park holiday festival at Dottie Mancini Park. This is an exciting moment for the Beautification Committee, spearheaded by Chairperson Merrill Schwartz, because this event represents the official Launch of the Adopt-a-Brick Program.

During the last year, this Committee has worked hand-in-hand with the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Parks and Recreation Depts. to refresh and transform the appearance of the Main Entrance of the Imperial Point Neighborhood and Park at Federal Highway. Rows of overgrown bushes were cleared, allowing the brick walls to be pressure-cleaned and their beauty to be fully exposed. Missing and damaged wall orbs were replaced, electrical lighting repaired and trees were trimmed of dead and excess branches by the City.

The purpose and goal of the Adopt-a-Brick Program is to help finance the next major stage of the overall project: Renovation of the Monument Wall (M-Wall), as well as the two smaller monuments (m&m) at the East and West locations on 62nd Street to emphasise the borders of the Imperial Point Neighborhood

The renovation of the M-Wall will include: removal of the crisscross brick pattern; resurfacing with a smooth stucco and re-painting in a neutral color. New and larger “Imperial Point” lettering will blend the original, traditional style with a contemporary edge so it always looks current. The raised lettering will have backlighting, which will provide an elegant, illuminated look for the wall at night.

If you are looking for a unique gift for the holidays, or want to celebrate a special occasion, purchasing a personalized engraved brick is a great way to commemorate an occasion or person. These Legacy Gift Bricks will be laid at the Main Entrance creating paved areas.

A mockup of the Monument Wall can be viewed at the Adopt-a-Brick table at Winter in the Park. You can purchase your Legacy Gift Bricks at this Event, or use the Imperial Point Website’s Paypal link:
