Imperial Point Butterfly Count

Butterflies in our Neighborhood

Many Imperial Point residents have intentionally incorporated plants that attract butterflies in their yards. Kudos to you!! These plants include ornamental grasses, flowering trees and scrubs, vines and ground cover.

Imperial Point has installed a Butterfly Garden at our main entrance on Imperial Point Drive next to our Celebration Brick Program installation. This garden is maintained by some of our dedicated residents to encourage Butterflies to our neighborhood and help in their continued population growth.

Due to many factors, one being the use of pesticides, 40% of invertebrate pollinator species – particularly bees and butterflies are facing extinction. Close to 75% of the world’s crops producing fruits and seeds for human consumption depend, at least in part, on pollinators.

The North American Butterfly Association (NABA) conserves butterflies and their habitats throughout North America, both by direct action, and by educating the public about the importance of butterflies and their habitats.

Imperial Point is a registered NABA counting area and contributes to the monitoring of butterflies in the United States, Canada and partially in Mexico. This activity is sponsored and promoted by the Imperial Point Civic Association.

The national butterfly count occurs 3 days out of the year. We just completed our count on September 9, 2023. We do this in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
