Dottie Mancini Park Closure Update

On December 7, 2023 Dottie Mancini Park, located behind the Imperial Point Hospital Complex, was locked down by Broward Health as a result of contract renewal negotiations with the City of Fort Lauderdale, thus denying Imperial Point residents and our surrounding neighborhoods the enjoyment of this great family oriented park.

Since our brief opening in December of Dottie Mancini Park for Imperial Point Civic Association’s “Winter in the Park” festival, the only living things enjoying the park have been the Igaunas. The City and Broward Health have been going back and fourth trying to resolve the issue(s). The latest Update is detailed in the below article by Ralph Zeltman the Association’s “Neighborhood Improvements” Director.

DOTTIE MANCINI PARK NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE by Ralph Zeltman
City of Fort Lauderdale has been meeting with Broward Health, property owner of the Dottie Mancini Park (DMP), since it’s closing and lock-down on 1 November 2023 when the previous lease lapsed with the city. The city has been meeting with Broward Health this year regarding a new lease and was advised on 9 August 2024 by District 1 Commissioner John Herbst that a proposed new lease will be submitted to the Commission for their consideration at their next city commission meeting. No details were revealed by Commissioner Herbst except that the previous negotiations with Broward Health indicated they were seeking another property of comparable size before considering the reopening of the DMP. We’ll all have to wait and see what transpires at the next city commission meeting on the disposition of the DMP reopening based upon the on again – off again track record experienced this year.
